Here is the video from extreme Southwest Manitoba...We were within 200 yards of the rapidly strengthening tornado as it was crossing the road! We were getting blasted by mud and cornstalks...more to come very soon...we're currently in Brandon, Manitoba..This was one of the most incredible supercells I have ever seen. Thankfully it remained over very rural areas.

Wow! This is awesome! Keep up the excellent work, Reed.
I wonder if the Greensburg, Ks. EF-5 tornado might have resembled this one?? That was an experience I will not be able to top for a long time.
well done lads, awesome footage!
i live in england im soooo lucky i dont get this sort of natural disaster!...often.
This tornado was just classified by Environment Canada as an F5! See this link: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/manitoba/story/2007/09/18/tornado.html
super :)
I actually live on the street the tornado hit in elie, mb. we're the only ones on that street without a basement in our house. My 3 yr old & I were home alone when it happened & unfortunately we did not see it coming or know of any severe weather warnings until it hit. because of the heat that day, we had all the windows & blinds, etc. closed & were in the house, I was doing some house cleaning & playing with my little boy. we did not have a tv, radio, computer, etc. turned on, so we had not heard any weather reports, warning, etc. we were completely oblivious to the impending storm, or more to the point, it's severity.
when it hit I grabbed my little guy & got down in the doorframe of my bedroom door & covered his body with mine & just prayed & prayed....it was the most terrifying experience I've ever been through or hope to ever go through. I'm told it lasted about 40 minutes. I had no sense of time while it was happening & didn't know if it been minutes or hours, that we laid there. I can't even begin to describe the sounds of it....the noise was unbelievable...never heard anything like it in my life....sounded like 6 freight trains coming right through & into my house....the howling & screaming of the wind was just awful & the sounds of things hitting the house & glass breaking & all kinds of other noises were absolutley horrific.
My 3 yr old is still suffering from nightmares (me too!). fortunately our home was not demolished, only damaged. my insurance company has been so amazingly wonderful & will be starting the work on my home next week.
the devastation on our street in elie is still so apparent & I still get such a surreal feeling every time I walk out my door & outside onto my street...it just hits me all over again. after it hit, our neighbors ran over to our place & banged on the door until we answered....when they realized we were home (they know we don't have a basement) they rushed over to see if we were ok & to bring us over to their house to take refuge in their basement as there appeared to be another twister after the first one hit & we did not think it was over yet. running over to the neighbors, carrying my son, I was in a complete daze & it was like stepping into a nightmare....I didn't recognize anything on my street & the neighbor's houses west of me were GONE!! It was so so horrifying! as it turned out, thankfully, another twister did not hit us that night & we survived the worst of it in the doorframe of my bedroom. someone was definitely watching over us that night.....
I i am stil looking at your video of the Manitoba tornado it is very cool did you see the elie tornado or were you in regina i saw the elie tornado it was cool did you know the elie tornado went acros the trans canada rode and it hit a flower mill and it blow a truck off the road and the driver was not hert!!! that is werd isnt it where are you know there was a very big storm yesterday and there was a tornado in the north it was a f2 twister i think well i beder go know dont get to close and keep it up guys by
Never seen a tornado but totally awesome!! :D
i never have seen a tornado how old do you have to be a twister chaser
helo im mustafa from iraq i iove tornados
Awesome guys, just awesome!
Ahh.. finally some footage
:-)
Reed, some of the video, especially when it crossed the road behind you looked like the Dimmit,TX Tornado. Agree?
WOW, just WOW. Probably the best tornado video of all time. Best example of multiple vorticies that I have ever seen. Just incredible, definitely worth the drive I'd say. Hopefully the next couple of days pan out too. I'm still trembling in awe of that tornado, so glad it wasn't in a populated area. Man that thing is beautiful.
Very Nice catch guys and I love the multiple vortices.
Why was that tornado dedicated to me? Because I doubted the Canada chase? I will never doubt again...way to go.
Before I knew Reed I saw him leading a chorus of University freshmen in "O Canada." Why? Don't know. Maybe he was prophesizing. TornadoVideos.net has annexed Manitoba.
YOU GUYS DESERVE AN AWARD! BEST BREAKING NEWS SITE IN THE WORLD!!! WOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
just glad it passed us by and moved on to man saw it devolping all day here in south sak just waiting to see the damage one of these babys can do I believe the only recorder f5 tornado was in Alameda Sask back in 1922 or close to it I have the info on a weather calander at work I will check it out for sure but you guys come on back if you ever feel the need
The multiple vortex point near the end was incredible... it even included a detached diagonal vortex that went out from the main area of circulation on the left side. I don't even know how to describe it.
Mike.....The Alameda Tornado wasn't a confirmed F5. We have never had an offficial "confirmed" F5 tornado ever in canada.
GREAT VIDEO REED!!!!!! THAT WAS AMAZING!!!!!! I can't believe that happened in this province!!!!!!! Also, still waiting to hear as to why a Tornado Warning was issued for Winnipeg earlier.
Absolutely AWESOME footage guys! Way to go!
Also props to Kevin Martin, nice call on the location!
Hoping to see some amazing footage from nearby my neck of the woods - Omaha, NE - one of these days...
OH MY...INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Holy WOW~~~!! Great video!! Congratulations to you Reed for finding one of the biggest tornados in SW. Manitoba, so your trip to Canada was a great success!! I would have loved to have seen that big tornado in person myself as the drive from Regina to southwest Manitoba is only about 2 1/2 hours. If only I had a laptop computer like you as I could have followed the storm as it was moving fast. I almost called you on your cell phone when you were in Regina to ask you whether I could follow you, but I thought it wasn't a good idea. Anyway, thanks for the great video, and I look forward to your pictures. I'm sure you'll be back again next summmer for more great adventures here in southern Canada.
Cheers!
Amazing video! I'm so jealous. I have family in Brandon, and I'm sure they're getting much more interesting weather out there than back here in Alberta.
Was this the Elie tornado, or one of the other two that touched down? insane video guys!
wtf?
Anybody know y there was a Tornado Warning for winnipeg around 9 PM CDT? Please respond...thanks
Those comments were getting old, very old. These guys are professionals. Show some respect people. Great job guys. Thanks for the video.
Looks like Girard, KS 2003. What a tornado. Can't wait to see the whole tape, drive back safe. Oh and Holder, you're good luck.
any idea on wat the MB tornado was rated?
Jonathan - There was no tornado warning or watch out for Winnipeg this evening on EC's website.
In case you haven't noticed....EC's site has been sorta down toady. I'm going by EC's channel on tv.
Also, I'm about to be hit by another round of storms. Sweet!!!!!!!
Welcome to Canada gentlemen.
LOL!
LOVE IT, beautiful Multiple vortices and one bitch of a wedge. You heard the one that hit the small farming town the night prior?
That was amazing!
This is so incredible, we have been keeping up with the comments throughout the day. We expected some type of activity to occur but not of this magnitude. Wow the force of nature is amazing. Anybody know which town would have been closest to this......Great job guys!!!!
OH CANADA! You are gonna have to rename your website to TheMostIncredibleTornadoesVideosEver.com. That is without a doubt the best video of a tornado I have ever seen.
Hi, there! Kevin told me to say this, in response to the message saying he was banned being deleted:
So does this mean I was unbanned? I didn't mean to cause trouble. I was trying to help.
Kev
In my opinion-he WAS trying to help! When that major wedge was out there, he was getting frustrated because he couldn't help the people in its path. Does this sound like a bad person to you? I don't think so. So PLEASE unban Kevin Martin? He doesn't deserve what he got, for trying to be a good guy.
Trying to be a good guy,
Jonathan
Yea, I would have to agree with Wes that one was one of the best videos of a tornado. Well yall have and be safe and a safe trip home.
intense insane intense...dat was da most insane video ever! awesome multiple vortices and one monster of a wedge!
All I can say is F....ng great video. Reed All of us Outlaws are in awe. GREAT JOB, loved the multi suction action...."WERE NOT WORHTY"
Lanny.....THE OUTLAW CHASERS
WOW! That one is amazing and one of the most incredible tornadoes you ever captured!
In Germany we expect severe weather on Monday. A distinctive cold front of an upper trough moves from west to east Germany during the day; strong winds are expected. Severe weather with supercells and some tornadoes is expected to occur in the afternoon and evening hours in (south-)east Germany, because of very well parameters (strong temperature contrasts - very good uplift conditions). We'll see.
Good chase guys!
Its 5:50 and i'm definately wide awake now!
OMFG man, that is absolutelly outstanding footage, guys! Truly spectacular video! Great job, thank you for posting it! Keep up the great job! Just amazing!
Just saw it on CNN ...awsome shots guys!!!!!!
That is one heck of a whirlwind, guys. Nice work.
I liked the part where Reed goes, "LOOKIT how big it is!" but then had to remind the driver, "DON'T watch it too closely!" ha ha.
Is that a rental Hyundai or your own car? In either event, don't put "wedge tornado chasing" on the insurance forms.
If it was on CNN like somebody else said, maybe you could post that clip on your site too, it would be nice to see it as well.
Those multiple vertices toward the end were cool.
I don't know why you have to do a dreary economic study to get your PhD, Reed, those videos seem like good enough research to me.
You just made my day!
Awsome video! No words for it.
It looked like it was staying at it's position for minutes. U have any idea how fast this tornado was moving?
I wonder if it was actually moving away, when it appeared to be standing still. Like they say, if a tornado appears to be standing still, it is either moving toward or away from you...
Unfortunately, there were other tornadoes from this same system further north and they caused a fatality.
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/manitoba/story/2006/08/05/tornado-manitoba.html
Scott, that story was from August 2006, I believe. Regards
That video was incredible.
I survived the deadly twister that hit Edmonton AB Canada many years ago and this video just brought tears to my eyes. Freaky.
Great job on the video guys, great job!
What happened after the video stopped? Did the tornado dissipate?
Resident of Dugald, 10 km east of Winnipeg
Crap..so it was.... my bad. I clicked on the link from the main twister story and didnt notice the date
here's the story that is the relevant one: More tornadoes last night, but luckily no loss of life:
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2007/06/24/manitoba-tornadoes.html
Awesome shots guys!! I've chased in Tornado Alley, this ranks with some of the best video I've seen!
I've read through the comments and I guess Daniel said what I wanted to say. Thanks Daniel :D
But I have to say ONE MORE TIME that this certainly has to be the best multiple vortices footage that I've ever seen. If your May 4th footage was used for research, one can only imagine what this can provide as well. Nice job getting into such great position. ... Oh, and the chill-factor is off the charts, too!
Suction Vortices
Just thought some of the readers may be interested in some info about suction vortices in light of the video.
"Small secondary vortices are also called suction vortices when they are most evident in the corner region, the area where the wind entering the base of the tornado abruptly “turns the corner” from primarily horizontal to vertical flow. A tornado with one or more suction vortices is distinguished from a multiple-vortex tornado in that a suction vortex is at most only several hundreds of metres high, while multiple vortices extend all the way up into the cloud base of the parent thunderstorm. The fastest known surface winds occur around the tips of secondary vortices." (from Encyclopedia Britannica)
"Suction vortices can add over 100 mph to the ground-relative wind in a tornado circulation. As a result, they are responsible for most (if not all) cases where narrow arcs of extreme destruction lie right next to weak damage within tornado paths. Subvortices usually occur in groups of 2 to 5 at once ... and usually last less than a minute each." (from NOAA)
BEAUTIFUL!
Congrats! Once again you capture an INCREDIBLE tornado. You should write a book or something..."How to get the best tornado video ever" by Reed Timmer. lol.
Amazing video guys!!!!!!! I'm jealous.
Where are you guys heading today?
BTW, 4 people were injured during the 3 tornadoes last night as reported to Environment Canada. EC will be doing a damage survey today.
WOW WOW WOW!!! Reed, you have done it again! That is as good or maybe even better than Manchester, SD! You can watch the tornado grow into a beast as it morphed from a cone to a stovepipe to a wedge. You guys were in one of its inflow jets for a few seconds, that must have been incredible! You could watch it go through vortex brake down (new leading research suggest that the speeds at vortex brake down can reach over 600+ mph!). Finally you could see an intense inflow jet (probably one of the most well defined that I have seen).
After this video clip ended, the tornado was on the ground for at least another 15 minutes. It gradually moved away from us and became rain-wrapped. Then the softballs came. Baseball to softball size hail blowing horiztonally into the Hyundai! The windshield cracked and we decided to drive east. We lost visual of the tornado as the rain core enveloped us...and then almost ran out of gas but found a station just before the car died.
We're going to head towards North Dakota for Monday...today will likely be an off-day for us. Monday looks huge though.
I was right....I was hit by another thunderstorm late last night.....5-6 am. Baseball-sized hail was falling?!?!?!? Wow! Then again, based on the fact that the storm produced that big of a tornado, I shouldnt be surprised. Good luck on your next chase!
Jon
you got to be freaking kidding me!
Hey Reed, i just saw your interview on CTV news. Great tornado chasing. I want to know what you really think about chasing tornadoes. So far, CNN and CTV think your nuts for doing what you do. Of course many of us think otherwise. I think without you guys tornadoes would be killing a lot more than they are. You mentioned your reasoning as saving lives. It makes sense. My question to you is, why not encourage tornado chasing. Driving is more dangerous than tornadoes. Cars kill more than tornadoes do. I feel its a ridiculous question for News to ask you. "why do you do this?" "are you crazy?" all these silly questions you have to deal with. News may make you guys and your kind look stupid. Why not put them in their place. Defend your interest in what you do... CTV are often polite, but i hate to hear people call you crazy for something i admire. Your videos are awesome and show some important things. Canada has never had such a video of a tornado like you caught. Without you guys people would be clueless to the oppurtunties in weather. Anways, i just loved the shooting, and keep it up man. Whats crazy to me is more people dont want to pursue this excitement.
WOW, You still capture the best footage!!! Congrats!
Good luck on Monday in ND!
Hi guys,
All I can say is wow. We'd heard news of tornado touchdowns in the area but had no idea of the scale of it. I run the local Brandon, Manitoba website www.ebrandon.ca. Glad to hear you made it safe and sound to our city. I've added your video to our video sharing section... posters on our forums are pretty amazed that something like this came within 30-40 minutes from this city! cheers
Great Chases. All I can say is wow! It looked pretty crazy when all the dust around your feet started getting sucked in to the tornado, I would have peed myself a little.

You guys are something else. "Let's go to Canada. It looks good for some tornado's." You go somewhere you aren't familiar with, skip over to another province and you get another top 3 event. It's almost like you're cheating somehow.
Insert word "jealous" here.
Hey Joe Surfer, thanks for the info about the suction/multiple vortices thing. I always assumed they were one in the same. I will henceforth adjust my vocabulary :)
And Dan, I agree with you about the media always asking those kinds of questions. Lucky for them, Reed & the gang always handle themselves with class when they're in front of the camera, instead of going all Mel Gibson on them. (As in, his annoyed responses to questions about motivations for making The Passion of The Christ and Apocalypto... ) I think it continues to happen because most of the time the interviewers are basically very naive about weather in general and assume that everyone else is too, and that they're being really "investigative" by asking questions that they think will generate "revealing" answers... or they might be looking for something that they can use to quote them out of context later - you never know!
Anyway, I also realized that in my last post I forgot to say "Thanks" to the guys for including us in what you're doing. It's pretty powerful stuff, so to speak! :D
Congrats on catching The tornado I watched that thing on radar and it was Huge!!! Nice video
Hi Reed, it looks like you caught an amazing tornado. I didn't know you were in Canada. This is amazing footage! See you soon.

TV.net on CTV.ca, no interviews with Reed or Dave, but good publicity. . .
that was an amazing video. Good job at capturing it.. I do wish i could of seen the clouds a little more. The affect of the clouds coming down from the sky, makes it that more cool looking.lol.
Can someone clear this up for me so I don't feel so shamefully ignorant:
What does it mean when someone types "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"? Is that an exclamation, an abbreviation, or does everyone just have a bunch of syrup lodged in their "A" key?
Very nice video. Do you guys know exactly where you were and what time it was when this touched down-was it NE of Pipestone? I am a student with Environment Canada and we are doing a damage survey today, so no, it has not been rated yet, and since it so far didn't hit any communities, it probably won't be rated, at least not what it should be rated. But any more information about where and when would be great!
Man Reed. You need to go to Canada more often! Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Weather Gurl:
The first tornado we saw was a large, low-contrast tornado that was slightly concealed by rain. It last for about 10 minutes, and was a large cone/stovepipe tornado. This one was located near Woodnorth, MB on 255, north of hwy 2 near the SK border.
The second tornado touched down about 2 miles east of Hwy 83, and 2 miles north of Hwy 2, just northeast of Pipestone, MB. The tornado tracked SSE and hit a small structure just on the north side of Hwy 2. The tornado than strengthened into a violent, 1/2 mile wide wedge just south of HWY 2 as it continued to track SSE.
I hope this helps!
We have pictures of the first tornado as well if you need it.
One word.......WOW! You guys just keep on getting better footage....When that wedge was just sitting there in the field strengthining like that.....Are you kidding me....then the multiple vorticies....that footage will be played for the next 30-40 years!:) Great work guys! Stay safe and good luck on Monday!
That does help We did get reports from the college of Du Page chase team for both of those tornadoes. I'm just wondering what time each of them actually touchdown? Any pictures help, you have my email!
That tornado looks so fake. ;-)
Weather Gurl...
I gotta say, I'm a little jealous... I was a student forecast assistant at the Ontario office last year, and we didn't get anything *close* to this event, at least that we know of...
Could you drop off a few details after you get back from the damage investigations, tell us what you saw?
(I'm a little worried about this year... we're 7 years overdue for an F4 in our neck of the woods...)
Simon E.
The video is incredible. Probably the best I've ever seen and I've seen a great deal of video. Part of me says that it isn't wise to get so close to something that deadly. But part of me says that if you are going to die (which we all are) you might as well go doing something you love.
Great video.
Reed!!!!! THAT WAS AMAZING!!!!!!! Man, huge...HUGE props to you guys! The morphology of that tornado was incredible and you could hear it in the video!!! I saw your footage on CNN this morning before the video off the site. How badly is Holder's car damaged??!! And Dave, haha....man, you must feel pretty dang proud now too!!! You realize there's just something about you chasing, lol!!! Good job guys, good luck and stay safe!!!
Oh yea..and one more thing....TO THINK ... that could have all happened with NO ONE SEEING IT!!!! The evening news reports would have said "a tornado occurred" and that would have been that, with no one realizing WHAT it was doing, and HOW!!!
That is amazing footage of the tornado.
My family lost their huge barn in this tornado approx 10 miles east of Pipestone as well as loss by many neighbors. We appreciate seing exactly what caused this incredible disaster.
Thanks
Many of you bloggers are from Canada, and as chasers you know that one of the most important part is getting the word out there- what is going on so that people can get to safety in time. One way of doing this is by reporting what your seeing so that Environment Canada can put out the appropriate watches and warnings. Please call for any severe weather across the CND prairies, 1-800-667-8676
Dude, just caught the clip on CNN...THIS LOOKED AMAZING ON MY HDTV!!! LOVE IT
WG: Thanks for the number! We may be giving it a call tomorrow in extreme southern MB..although it looks like the action will stay in ND.
Michelle: We are very sorry to hear about the destruction to your family's property. We were just south of the barn by about 100 yards when it was hit. Let us know if there is anything we can do to help.
We're currently heading towards Grand Forks will we will stay the night and prepare for tomorrow's event.
You made News 8 big dog! My dad JUST walked outside when it came on, we're about to eat dinner over at his place.
i live in winnipeg and was reading this and saw a tornado watch for winnipeg. and im wondering why were geting this weather because we never get tornadoes. i dont kno jack about tornadoes but is it rare if they come into a city like winnipeg or will they stay in the country or praries
If anyone wants to check out high-res/full-size versions of the shots of the Elie, MB tornado damage I sent to CTV, go here:
http://members.shaw.ca/upm-upload/tornado/
just found this sight a month ago...and you guys are doing a excellent job...this may be some of the best video of multiple vortices i have ever seen..keep up the good work and be safe
Environment Canada just confirmed this tornado as an F-3. They're also using this video on The Weather Network, Canada's weather channel.
WOW! Were you guys on Highway 2 when this occured or on a side road??
Whoaaaa!! Incredible! I knew you guys would get a big one! Sometimes I really wish I'm with you guys when you go on a chase...excellent work.
I saw the tornado in action last night, it caused quite a bit of damage and the power is still out for many people, even at one point there was baseball size hail.
This tornado footage was on CNN?
hey reed, u and ur gang of tornado chasers should head on over to alberta.. lots of severe weather going on here.. the other day i seen a funnel cloud about 3 quarters of the way down to the ground.. it never completely toched down but it looked awesome.. tornado chasers like u guys are my heros...so think it over and if u decide to come great.. there is a little town called ponoka.. always has very severe weather so it would be a great place for you guys to get some hail or lightning or even tornado shots.. please do consider it peace out!!
Yeah, head on over to Ponoka for some heavy weather... oh by the way... you ever see Brokeback Mountain?
Great job!! You guys are setting a high standard!!
To the Webmaster:
Would it be possible at some future time to add a keyword-search feature that would cover the whole site, both entries and reader comments? That would be nice for looking through the archives.
Also, sometimes when there are a lot of new posts, it's hard to find where I left off reading last time. Would it be possible for the reader comments to be automatically numbered (#1, #2, #3, etc.). I know it would cause gaps in the sequence when comments get removed, but it would be easier to remember the last post # read than the time of day. Thanks for the consideration.
Nice job on the recent decision to implement IP blocks when necessary. That seems to have solved some of your problems without going to a registration-only service.
Keep up the great work. This is one of my favorite websites now.
Reed, next time you are by a tornado like that, bring a Frisbee with you, and see how far you can huck it. :-)
Congratz guys!!!
I was visiting your site on thursday after you posted your forecast and said you were taking to trip up to Canada. I was hoping you guys weren't taking the trip and not going to see anything, but once again...you were right on the money and the footage is AMAZING!
Can't wait for the tours to start next year. I am in for sure! You guys are the best.
And yes, I also saw it on CNN. As a matter of fact, it is the first item under "Top Stories". That pretty much says it all.
The video is also playing on CTV Newsnet, Canada's version of CNN headline news.
Wow, this footage made it as the lead-in headline story of tonights CBC National newscast in Canada. Now TornadoVideos.net dominates not only in the US, but in Canada as well....
Congrats! Been watching this site for a long time now....You guys have the best luck and forecasting abilities I think I've ever seen!
Wow Reed!!!!! Amazing as always!! Stay safe!
Support structure and vortex looks F5 from an aerodynamic engineering perspective. If you can inspect the pathway there is a fairly easy field calculation you can do based on damage observations and your video to get windspeed datapoints. I used it on the Salt Lake City tornado I videotaped for NBC's Nightline a few years back and got F2 which was correct. -Nothing like yours though. Strong work!
Hey everyone.
We just got to our hotel in Grafton, ND, which should be a good location to start our chase tomorrow. We're analyzing the new model data and will post about the chances tomorrow soon.
Thanks for the comments and suggestions!
At first glance at the 00z model runs, it appears that extreme northeast ND and northwest MN looks best for tornadoes tomorrow. The problem is with these new runs, is that the low-level jet pushes slightly east of the instability axis. I've seen this situation occur several times in the model runs for Northern Plains events, and a majority of the time, the LLJ verifies further west near the boundary/instability axis.
We'll also be watching further south into central/eastern/southeastern ND as well, but right now, the models are showing the LLJ to be well east of where the storms are forecast to initiate.
Here's the CBC news coverage with Reed's video (and their yelling :-)) part of the story
http://www.cbc.ca/clips/rm-hi/rice-manitoba070624.rm
Unbelievable guys!! Awesome Video! Once again you show that you guys are truly the best in the world at this!! Good luck in ND/MN tomorrow. If I did not have to work I would love to go.
Funny about that CBC footage, looks like they cropped out the part of the video with the web address on it. Funny too how they call Reed an "amateur chaser" many times. I suppose that may be fine and all for visa purposes, but come on CBC, give credit where credit is due!
Just saw the video on my local ABC station In dallas. Also had the tornadovideos.net link on it.
They called Reed an amateur?! 8-O Um, !!!THAT'S INSANE!!!
.... Also, a long time back in the posts Corey asked about what "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" means. Since nobody has answered this inquiry, I will now lend my helping hand :D
I say, Think of the sound made when someone is falling off a cliff in a B movie. That ought to sum things up. On second thought, that's more of a "HELP!" AAAAAAAAA. So you might instead want to try "AAAAAAAAAAAA," as in, HOLY COW!, or HEAVENS TO BETSY!, or THE SKY IS FALLING!.
I'm glad you asked, Corey. That was fun! Does anyone else wish to add anything to the AAAAAAAAAA thread? :D
Here's another view of the clip via cnn.com. Reed have you guys given interviews at all?

I come from Manitoba and have since moved. All I can say is WOW! That was some amazing footage you guys were able to get!!!
i loved the vid, except i live aroud this area, it was totally kick yea we haven't had this stuff for ever it's amazing, well i got the weakest point of the stormithink but i love tornados and watching them (FROM A DISTANCE) well bye!!
Great work - except with the audio. The "oh my god"s really ruin it for me. The driver drives. The videographer captures the video. Comments like "triple vacuum vortices" are good, but "get the hell out of here" is not needed. You are a professional tornado chaser, right? Act like you've been there before.
Here are some pics from outside the storm, about 10-15km's south. looking north...

That was about 30mi from my childhood home... Freaky!
I still lived in the area and the sky was freaky but I didnt see any signs of tornado. To hear from my folks that a tornado was in the area was a shocker. To actually see what the beast was in its time is... amazing!
Where was this tornado? Close to what town or city?
It was close to Pipestone, Manitoba
Great video! have a great trip! Gail
That is impressive photo and video capture! Everything is so clear and, and amazing!
I'm happy for your trip to our neck of the woods turned out great!
Welcome to the Prairies guys, glad we didn't disappoint! Nasty scary yet beautiful. Hell hath no fury like mother nature scorned!
Here's a link to a story the Winnipeg Sun did on us:

Tomorrow still looks interesting for tornadoes up in North Dakota, we'll keep you updated!
Thanks for the link Dave. I saw your video coming by today on cnn international. Good Job
over here we are now in a low risk with a storm expected to be at full force tomorrow.
strong low-level shear could principle create a favourable environment for tornadic low-topped supercells. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Yep, you were Really close to a large tornado. Closer than I have been (about a third of a mile). And you seem to have driven past it, aware of the motion, and stopped while there is dust being pulled into it by inflow while you are apparently in the path. You know someone else is going to want to get really close video and take unreasonable risks, right? And that your exciting video appears to be taken in the path, which is what just about all chasers try to avoid at all costs? Many of us think chaser fatalities are coming soon - many close calls this year - I'm afraid this only feeds the networks seeking ever-more-dangerous video and encourages amateur chasers to take these sort of risks, which under slightly different circumstances could be fatal (imagine rain-wrapped, or the chaser starting to take baseball hail and panicking, perhaps at dusk). Just a voice of caution here.. recognize there are thousands who have a video camera and a car, and after watching this think they can get close, too.
Well, wise people will not engage in this activity unless they know what they are doing. Just like autoracing or any other "extreme" sport. The risk is real and I really don't think many will attempt it themselves. Yes you do get the odd punk that thinks he's Mario Andretti, but they are in the minority and usually end up in jail anyway.
I watch superbike racing as well, but that doesn't mean I go 300km/h around town. Give people a little credit won't you?
All I can say is WOW.
What a Monster that was. Glad it stayed away from a more populated Area.
Great Job Guys.
Hi
I am a winipegger and never seen anything so powerful!!!
awesome job guys
The way mother nature is I think we have a few more of these tornados coming our way the weather and climate are getting nasty!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Be safe guys and safety to all that are in the areas of these monsters..............
len
wow ... u guys are sure brave .. good job.... loved the video....Sandy
Hey! thanks for bringing that ild footage to us ,Amazing Vid's you have just been archived. That cell did pass over Moose Jaw and there were small funnels sited and one "WILD " lookng sky that kinda weather is rare in south sask ,torndo speaking I guess .Well ree you know your sky. Thanks for bring me the most amazing site I've ever seen .One mre thing would yousay torndo alley maybe growing,be safe guys. And thank GOD no one was killed in that
That has to be one of, if not THE, finest and most awe inspiring representation of the life of a tornado I have ever seen. This is an important video.
Reed, that was one of the best videos of multiple vortices I have ever seen.
WOW. soo glad it wasnt near a town!
Brian - I hear what you are saying, but the reality is that Reed and his team are, by all accounts, professionals. A PhD candidate in meteorology who has been chasing tornados for more than 10 years and makes a living doing it, I would say, should be considered a pro and treated as such by the networks that make money off of his footage. This of course means they should add the warning "these are trained professionals, do not try this at home" or the like.
yeah ummmm how can u stand there when a tornado's coming and not b scared and runaway from it that's crazy cause i wouldnt risk my life i would RUN TO SHELTER yall are crazy VERY crazy bye......
Thanks for your concern but after hearing the destruction for neighbors around us we were very forunate.
Some interesting bit of trivia, 55 years ago almost to the day a tornado ripped the roof off of our barn. It was rebuilt only to be ripped down 55 yrs later. with the tornado traveling in near same path, saving the house both times.
Thanks again
Brian, Reed will soon have a Doctorate in Meterology! For those in "Rio Linda" that is about 8 years of college.
There aren't many in this country more qualified to chase tornados!.. As to Scott, have you ever been close to a large tornado? I have, it is an awe inspiring, adrenaline pumping experience! If the chasers weren't awestruck by the sight of a 1/2 mile wide wedge tornado at close range, they either have lost respect for Nature (dangerous), or are comatose!!
hey rob where do u live in ponoka?? whats ur last name?
LOL @ that scott fellow for his criticism. He wanted the dialogue to go like this:
"Golly, gee. Look at that very large tornado that is so close to us. Let us analyze its current status."
Their people, Scott, not robots! LOL
WOW!!! That is the most incredible tornado I have ever seen in my life. It is a miracle that it was over rural areas. Imagine what would have happened if it went through a town.
wow what a sight - no sense trying to understand mother nature. the weather here in Saskatchewan and Manitoba has been so unstable over the last 12 months that this monster was no surprise. thank the Good Lord that nobody was hurt
MAN O MAN! Incredible video!! I had just moved from Portage la Prairie, Manitoba last month to Terrace, BC and am thoroughly disappointed I was not there to experience it!! Speaking to one of my friends in Portage the next day, she said the clouds around the area were so colourful with purple, green, yellow hues. She was up at the Mall at the time and decided to head home just in case cover was needed. INCREDIBLE VIDEO!!
Holy Heck Batman! I had no idea. I'm in Regina and about a week and a half ago had a dream that we got a tornado here... There were some very ugly skies here at our exhibition week last year and as the staff told people to get inside the concrete buildings, I was taking photos of a cloud formation. A guy standing next to me said not to stay outside much longer "because I was in Edmonton and that's exactly what things looked like before that one."
Incredible to see Mother Nature get upset like that but in NO way do I hope it ever occurs over us. Storms and natural occurrences like that have potential for and DO do so much damage not to mention potential loss of human life.
From now on, though, I'll be carrying my camcorder...
Thanks so much for posting this.
Talk about putting Manitoba on the map. However my heart goes out to all who have been touched by the tornados wrath.
I have been in Manitoba a long time, we can get some pretty wild weather up here, noticably more so in the last 4 years it has been getting more active..
Glad to see you can show that up here in Canada we too can get some powerful and awesome weather..
I live in Shilo, and I can tell you that it was fairly wicked out here both on Saturday and Sunday. As for the question of whether or not a warning should have been issued for Winnipeg...duh?? Do you think it shouldn't have been? One of you said "but is it rare if they come into a city like Winnipeg or will they stay in the country or prairies". I don't mean any offence but are you trying to compare it to a stray animal that should know better or could be warded off some how. I'm no Ph.D. in Meteorology either, I'm doing a Masters in something else, but it would stand to reason that the warning was posted for the safety interests of everyone based on the mere unpredictability of the storm once it hits, and the proximity to where it hit. Elie isn't that far from Winnipeg.
Hi there,
I live in Winnipeg, MB and I have to say I have never seen a video like this! I was about 13 or so when the movie twister came out and I have been hooked on tornadoes since.
Last year as you may have heard we had another F3 tornado rip through Gull Lake and the Lac du Bonnet area, My grandfather, aunt and uncle were out on the lake fishing and sarted to see this large storm rolling in. they stayed in the spot they were for a little while and then realized it was time to head back to our trailer. My grandpa was driving the boat back to the trailer when his hat blew off his head. he turned the boat around to go back for it and drove right into a waterspout. the waterspout flipped them out of the boat as it sucked it into the air, leaving them only half submerged in the water then slammed the boat back on top of them upside down. after a strugle to get from underneath the boat (they were all still wearing their life jackets at the time)they managed to swim across the lake to an island where they waited 4 hours for someone to finally see them and rescue them.
they all sustained minor injuries but needless to say they have a great story to tell.
I do not have any footage or pictures of that tornado but we were able to get the a CD of a helicopter rescuing our boat, and few pictures of the damage in the area. I would be happy to share them with you if you'd like :)
Again you guys are awesome! keep up the great work and come to Manitoba more often!
Be safe
omg .. that was the soo crazyy.. havent seen something like that except on movies.. it was insane
That footage is amazing. My family farm was hit that same night by an F3. Just wondering where this footage was taken. Our farm is near pelican lake about 10 miles from Pleasant valley and 15km from Killarney. Our farm sustained damage and our grain bins and sheds are destroyed. The house is intact but the garage was hit by debris. Two grain bins are in the field. And most of our trees and bushes had to be cut down.
Amanda, saw footage of your place and the damage on the news. Looked rough! Glad the house made it okay though....and well, on the upside, looks like you have loads of firewood now. :( Sad to lose all those trees.
If you read up, buried somewhere in these comments is the info that the footage from this wedge tornado was near Pipestone, NW of you, around 7-7:15pm that same night.
Reminds me of the show Twister (Hope that's not a let down) anyway Good Job... Keep safe!
ok.. i dont know why ppl critizize storm chasers for having emotion. its a volitile situation every time and your heart goes a mile a minute... what ever reed and the boys say on their video, its their video! and besides...next time you make love to your woman... dont be screaming and carring on with the "OH GOD!!!"... your an adult.. act like you've been there before lol.
Wow guys! Just...WOW. Incredible footage, and so close up! Those multiple vorticies made my hair stand on end! Feel free to yell out loud, too. I know the incredible excitement of having a storm right up in your face. Keep up the great work!
Wow. Its awesome how you knew tornadoes were going to touchdown in manitoba and you got your recompence.
i currently reside about 3/4 of a mile from where you guys shot that footage we were standing outside the whole time in our shed and I tell you it was too insane. We had cornstalks land in our yard, and a full Size bale. Nice footage guys but living through one that big is a miracle.
The tornado in Elie, Manitoba was rated as an F4 and the one in this video near Pipestone, MB was rated an F3. Also a tornado was sited in Winkler, MB but hasn't been officially confirmed....
seems to be everywhere today.......
