Severe storms and possible supercells have exploded from just east of Regina, through Yorkton, and up to Swan River, SK tonight, as the low-level jet has increased convergence along the advancing cold front. I just got off the phone with storm chasers who are tracking the cell northeast of Yorkton (shown above), and they have reported possible wall clouds and even potential funnels with this storm near Kamsack. It still remains to be seen if this cell is or can remain to be surface based. Stay tuned for updates!

didnt run into anythign bad after it alked to u reed, just some light hail. nothing major. seemed to die out after i talked to u, but nothing major. we had a minor one at 4 am. sorry i didnt call back had no service . gotta love our cell coverage.
its too bad that the cap held so strong untill dark! ive never chased at night yet, i could only imagine how tough its gotta be. hopefully those guys/gals stay safe and get some gnarly photos of the storm illuminated from the lightning.
Reed!! I'll copy my update from the other topic at 9:47(and make it less panicky ha).
SEVERE thunderstorm was in Canora, started at Good Spirit Lake at about 9:15. Cloud split into 3. Photos of it before it hit (will upload those tomorrow)
VERY INTENSE lightning, only a little bit of rain, no hail here yet. Lights have been flickering off and on.
Driving home from lake 15 mins before the storm....MAJOR lowering to the south, huge wall cloud, and in front of us was TWO FUNNELS!! In the same cloud. First on the right...lowered down and went back up. Shortly after the 2nd funnel on the left, went halfway down to the ground and even had some strength but went back up.
Wish I got a photo of the funnels but I was more worried about them touching down..
Just uploaded one photo, I think its the best I took for sure tonight: (my internet is INSANELY slow, so the rest my take awhile)

Nice lightning shot!
I'm not surprised at all you saw the funnels. It definitely looked like a nice supercell for awhile.
Any reports from Aaron?
Hopefully the front can make it down here to Michigan some day!
Tomorrow looks very interesting as well for southern manitoba
Thanks Reed!!
It was pretty crazy here so I didn't call Aaron, most communication was by text. He's a really good friend of mine so the 2 of us are always updating each other on the weather conditions. And unfortunately at home he has no cell service.
The funnels kinda scared me, only because I've never been that up close to some and I couldn't say anything because my parents would have freaked out haha.
There's another storm coming, I can hear the thunder getting closer again. I'll post what this one will do if anything and maybe try get more shots :)
Think these storms will stay strong enough into manitoba? I know they are forecasting thunderstorms for early morning here and throughout the day tomorrow....but i tend not to believe the tv anymore...they seem to be wrong most of the time...lol
Looks like one of those days we might have a chance of something big tomorrow here in S Manitoba. I'm definitely keeping an eye to the sky and the batteries charged haha.
on the sat it appears that there are some large storms over middle aftrica, wonder if those are the first potential
hurricanes of the year.
wow, i never knew that CA. had so many storms. I wish that would happen in the OK. area when the jet was over us.
Wish we had that kind of action in the GTA "Greater Toronto Area", unfortunately we have the great Lakes that kills everything
I would like to thank the Ice age for that
Hey everyone, just got up and looked at alot of yall's posts.... Looks like some VERY interesting things happened up there in canada Yesterday!!
Unfortunantly alot of the storms I posted about around my region yesterday died out before ever reaching my house!!!! It's like I have some kinda shield over my area that kills storms!!!
Zack! Don't you just hate that, I live just right out side of D.C.....it does that alot to us too. We refer it as the D.C spilt. I live right off I66 one of the highways into district and the storms usually spilt up to the north or south....leaving us HIGH AND DRY! Kim
Yeah Kim I do HATE that!! Seriously, Everytime a storm tries to head this way we usually get either the weak end of the storm, or it just dies out!!!
Ok Canada, it's time to get a new doppler system. No disrespect intended, but I think the gerbil running on the wheel that powers the atari is on his last legs...maybe a bit of flaxseed oil will do the trick?
It's really, really strange to watch the NE to SW progression passing through MI right now...I think this is only the 3rd or 4th time I've noticed it.
Zack, be thankful that those storms die out before they hit your place. I live right close to Elie and one of the tornados was coming right for our house. Thankfully it turned away and it missed us but unfortunately got houses in Elie. Having a family and kids its scary stuff! Exciting, but scary!
Yeah, I like the tornadoes away from my house, But I love them!!! When I get myself a car next year I'm gonna be chasing them like crazy!!!!
hey corey:
we just got our doplar in 91 ...thats still new for ec lol. and i dont think we would have gotten it then unless we had ppl die from an f-4. thats how governtment works... something bad has to happen before anything is really done ..usually.
Hi Dale, Corey has a point though Canada does need better technology..... Their radar is just not efficient if you ask me.
Ya i agree US radar is so much better then Canadian radar.
Reed: The 2nd thunderstorm wasn't as severe as the first, still a lot of lightning, basically nothing for rain. But it sure had some wind, really picked up a couple times. And unfortunately the only pictures I caught was of the sky lightning up from heat lightning, nothing great. But will still try upload some later.
And Corey and zack...Dale is completely right, something terrible usually has to happen before our gov't makes a change, call them old school I guess. It does the trick though, it at least warns us when something is approaching and which way it's heading :P.
